Are you one of the 132 million Americans found by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) to suffer with sleep disorder? Tossing and turning and your brain won’t turn off; why not try a relaxing night time soak in your hot tub? That’s right folks; hot tubs have been found to provide much needed relief to those of us who have trouble sleeping.
Using prescription drugs, over the counter sleeps aids, and alcohol may help you sleep but they can come with adverse side effects. Warm water soaking is a natural sleep remedy. NSF studies have found that soaking in hot water provides ease for body aches and pains, and relief from stress and anxiety allowing for better sleep. Forming a nightly routine that is stress free and relaxing and includes a hot tub soak is a wonderful way to get more restful, needed sleep.
Your hot tub should be no higher than 104 degrees Fahrenheit, soaking for about 20 minutes, an hour or two before you go to bed is ideal. You need ample time to cool down before you get into bed to make sure you do not overheat, as we all know it is difficult to sleep when you are too hot. Also, it is important to stay hydrated as the warm temperatures can cause dehydration and you do not want to have to wake up later when your body is craving a drink because you let it dehydrate.
Using hot tub aromatherapy with your soak will also add to relaxation and calming, inducing a better night’s sleep. Scents like lavender, vanilla, and jasmine are perfect to bring the relaxation and stress relief needed to put you in sleep mode.
All this talk about sleep, I am getting tired! Who is ready for a nice hot tub soak and a good night’s sleep?
